Guidance from the I Ching: #14 - Sovereignty

Stay humble, my friend.

August 10, 2020

“Sovereignty brings exceptional progress. An enlightened person, therefore, represses evil influences by making obvious that which is good. They align themselves with the unfolding destiny of the cosmos.”

I consult the I Ching (Book Of Changes) for inspiration at the start of every week. This week’s message is all about staying humble.

“It is crucial to be able to identify with the pains and weaknesses in others and offer solutions that come from a place of caring and not condemnation.

According to the I Ching, Sovereignty represents a time of great potential that is coming to fruition. Sometimes translated as Wealth, Sovereignty is the time when impact and inspiration abound. But as in all things, there is a catch.

For those who choose to lead or influence, Sovereignty offers the opportunity to create alignment with others. Your ability to influence others is on the rise, not by force, but because of your kindness. Sovereignty is not about forcing others to follow your lead; it is about creating honest relationships. The people in your sphere of influence are attracted to you because of your caring and sincerity. To make the most of this time, you should remain humble and act with modesty. Sovereignty is not about tooting your own horn; it is about letting your actions and behaviors speak for you. According to the I Ching, “A dignified manner brings good fortune.”

Compassion is a necessary trait for those who wish to attain Sovereignty. It is crucial to be able to identify with the pains and weaknesses in others and offer solutions that come from a place of caring and not condemnation. Your kindness is what will inspire people, not your position. As the old saying goes, “people don’t care how much you know until they know how much you care.” Fear and intimidation may work for a limited time, but will never produce lasting loyalty. To quote the I Ching, “with gentleness and goodness, you will win hearts.”

To obtain Sovereignty, you must never lose sight of where you came from.
You are now in the spotlight and seen by those you lead, and those in superior positions, so proper behavior is critical. Be kind and unselfish, and you will be seen as an ally to those you seek to lead, and those in positions of authority. Your power now comes from the fact that you are relatable and approachable. Because you are not perceived as a threat, others become quick to align themselves with you.

But Sovereignty may be a burden as well as a blessing. With your influence on the rise, it becomes easy to fall victim to pride, greed, and immoral behavior. During this time, focus on thoughts and activities that bring out your higher self, and eliminate anything that weakens your character. To have true Sovereignty, you must overcome the faults in yourself and the situation by becoming clear on the things that are not in alignment with the greater good. Examine yourself for signs of pride and don’t become seduced by the Dark Side.

Sovereignty suggests a situation of great potential. You have tremendous assets at your disposal and the ability to coordinate them to work in your favor. However, your opportunity could be ruined through poor choices and bad behavior. Understand that it may become challenging to maintain your composure and humility. Make sure to keep your ego in check and don’t believe your own hype. Stay humble and stay honorable. Also, prepare yourself for the difficulties that will most certainly lie ahead. Don’t allow yourself to be lulled into a false sense of security because things are going smoothly now. Remember, “pride cometh before the fall.”

So this week, challenge yourself to act from a place of Sovereignty.
